Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Attendees:  Julie Batsch, Therese Scott, Molly Edmonson, Dave Volk, Amy Maricocchi, John Hill, Laura Bunker, Larry Sampsel, Ralph Maresco, Connie Mattei, Jo Rhoten, Clark Buck, Patty Weaver.

Opening Prayer:  Ralph Maresco

Non-Member Forum:  Strengthsfinder, Carol Carlin & Cheryl Anne

Carol and Cheryl, described the program as a book with an online assessment tool that identifies your personal strengths; work in small groups at subsequent meetings.  4-5 people have been through the program.  It helps you understand your top 5 strengths out of 35 descriptions.

It would take four 90 minute meetings to complete the program and could be done in 4 weeks.  Let Julie know if you are interested in participating and what time constraints you might have over the next 2 months (early summer?).

Approval of March Minutes:  Julie Batsch.  Motion to approve, Amy;  2nd, Molly Edmonson.  Approved

Talents Plan Update:  Dave Volk.  Dave deferred to review this as we went through our Subcommittee reports and double check time frames.

Sub-committee Reports:

Jared’s Law - Clark Buck.  Inspection has been done by outside person.  They are working on a priority list (i.e. chemicals in building...., need a sink in Jr High science room, heading towards Tile floors, repairs to exterior concrete.....)

Health & Wellness - Ralph Maresco.  Bobcat paws are completed on paved areas.  Tracking BMI in 3rd grade.  Festival booth is out for this year.  Patty and Molly are working with festival committee to have a family fun run/walk at the festival, length to be determined.

EC/Faith Formation Objectives - Amy Maricocchi.  No new news.

Kindergarten -- Jo Rhoten.  A wall mural is being custom painted (and donated) by a grandmother in the Parish.   Books and supplies are coming in.  Furniture has not been ordered yet as the new teacher is finalizing list and will order soon.

Foreign Language - Dave Volk.  Survey is complete with strong support for a Language program.  Jo Rhoten states that no curriculum exists at the Archdiocese level for grade schools.  This responsibility would fall back onto us.  300 minutes a week for Gym, Art, Music, and Health are required by Archdiocese. They recommend 75 minutes of Language per week if there is a program.  Jo reviewed the accounting of a donation made a few years ago to get a foreign language program underway, as requested by the donating family.  Money was seed money to create a language program.  Foreign Language Committee will continue to meet.

Playground - Julie Batsch.  Group has reached its financial goals.  Equipment order is being finalized and construction should start June 23rd and should be finished by August 1st.

Unfinished Business:

Re-cap response to Parish Council re: weekend giving - L. Bunker.

Nothing new to report at this time.

Response -- Additional Administrators Needed? - J. Batsch.

A part time employee was added this year to assist Pat Martin but Jo and Mary Ann do end up helping in very hands-on ways.  Julie pointed out we may need more administrative help but not additional administrators.  Any future requests for additional administrative help will need to come from Jo and Mary Ann.

New Business:

’08-09 Officer Nominations

Blue Ribbon School process -- Jo and Mary Ann requested that a member of EC look into reviewing the application process for the NEA Blue Ribbon School designation.  Molly is going to look into this process.

Communications:

School -  Jo Rhoten.  Theme for next year has been chosen "God's Garden Grows With Character".  Reviewing handwriting curriculum as new focus for next year, as well as keyboarding curriculum.  Jo and Mary Ann are going to a "Model School" conference in Orlando in June.

PTO - Connie Mattei.  8th grade survey will be done but help is needed, Amy and Patty volunteered.  Mulch sale went well, Flower Sale is this weekend.  May 13th campus outfitters will be here and Volunteer Appreciation day is May 8th.
