Sunday Morning Preschool 2007-2008 - General Information
Welcome to the Sunday morning preschool program during 9:45 am mass. We have classes for three, four and five year olds and Kindergartners. The classes meet in the school building and there are two teachers for each class. We also use Junior High Students as aides in the classrooms. The cost is $50 per child to cover books and supplies. This year classes will start September 23rd and run through May.
HOW DO I ENROLL MY CHILD?
To enroll, please fill out the registration form and send a check made out to St. Columban for $50 per child and return it to the parish office by September 1st. Additional forms are available in the hall rack in church or online at www.stcolumban.org. We use the same cutoff date as Loveland Schools which is “children must be three years old by September 30” to enroll. We also require that all children are potty trained. You will be contacted the week before regarding which class your child is placed in.
HOW DO I KNOW IS MY CHILD IS READY?
Are you able to leave your child for a few hours without crying for mom? Can they listen to a teacher and follow easy directions? You know if your child is ready. We want this to be a fun experience for them, so please use your best judgment. Don’t push your child into a situation he or she may not be ready for.
WHAT DO THEY NEED TO BRING?
The only thing your child will need is a folder. This makes transporting papers and crafts easier for everyone. We will also put a calendar and the teacher’s name in the folder. All other materials will be provided. They should eat breakfast because snacks will not be provided.
Our catechists are very special treasures of our parish and several return each year until their children graduate from the program. So every year we need new teachers. No experience is needed and we provide all the plans, resources, activities and supplies for you and the children. It is a wonderful experience and opportunity to show these preschoolers how much God loves them. We also have two teachers for every class so you can work out your own schedule and teach every other week. This is a great ministry to be involved with and I guarantee you will enjoy the children and the service you are bringing to the parish. Please consider this for the upcoming school year! All you need to do is mark the registration form that you want to be a catechist. By being a catechist, your child’s Sunday school tuition is free. –Terri Kerley.
Program Update
The Kindergartners will continue to use the “Call to Faith” series that is the same series they will continue to use at St. Columban School and ERE. It is a solid foundation in Scripture, Catholic tradition, and prayer experiences. It helps children to share their faith and connect it to their lives and it helps them learn how to live their faith.
The preschoolers will use a new program we started last year called “Seeds.” The title reflects the seed of God’s word that we hope will grow in your child’s heart. Each lesson will coordinate with the Sunday’s gospel and they will listen to God’s message on their level with age appropriate activities. They will also bring home a booklet each week that they will use in class to explore each Sunday’s theme.
