St. Columban Christmas Trees Bring Joy to St. Leo's
Some of you
may remember Fr. James R. (Jim) Schutte, former Associate Pastor of St.
Columban while Fr. Joseph Robinson was Pastor, from 1983 to 1986. After many
years of serving God’s people in an urban church area of Dayton, Ohio, Fr. Jim
requested to minister in some of Cincinnati’s urban districts. Fr.
Jim is now pastor of St. Joseph's Church in the West End in addition to St. Leo’s
in Fairmount, including the San Antonio Chapel on Queen City Avenue. The
food pantry is St. Leo’s main ministry and so many are dependent on this
ministry. Therefore, there wasn’t a Christmas budget for real Christmas trees.
St. Columban Parish donated six (15-18 foot) Christmas trees to St. Leo’s. Clark Buck and Bill Rider delivered the trees so that St. Leo’s could enjoy their beauty and fragrance. St. Leo’s music minister designed a box with a cross bar so as to place some of the 4 foot branches within. This was nestled among the almost life size nativity. Bill and Karla Rider returned with Christmas lights for the trees. One can only imagine the visual beauty Parishioners were gifted when entering their beloved church! On behalf of St. Leo’s Parish, Fr. Schutte extends a warm thank you to our St. Columban Parish.
