Stewardship is based on spiritual principles of the Old Testament and Jesus’ teachings, and a way to thank God for all God’s blessings. It is a way to deepen our relationship with God and involves intentional, planned and proportionate giving of our time, talent and treasures.
What is Stewardship?
- Stewardship is INTENTIONAL because it is a deliberate decision to live a Christian life
- Stewardship is PLANNED because you include giving in your weekly budget and volunteer activities in your annual calendar
- Stewardship is PROPORTIONATE because you give a percentage of your time and income to the church and other charities.
As Christian stewards of St. Columban we receive God’s gifts gratefully, cherish and tend them responsibly, and with accountability. We share them in justice and love with others, and return them with an increase to the Lord.
We live Stewardship as an Act of:
- FAITH - as we belong to God and acknowledge all we possess is God’s
- TRUST - as we place our life in God’s hands
- WORSHIP - as we love God, the giver of all
- BELONGING - as we unite our gifts with the rest of St. Columban’s parish family
The spirituality of stewardship is based on being Christ-centered rather than self-centered. The focus is on God as the giver of all, and bridges the material with spiritual world. It uses God’s gifts for God’s purposes. It teaches sacrificial giving to God; from substance rather than from excess. We give of ourselves in service to others just as Jesus did some 2,000 years ago.
