A Worshipping community Since 1859. St. Columban Parish is a Catholic community that follows the Word and Work of Jesus Christ through discipleship, stewardship, and fellowship. It is an understatement to say that our parish has grown significantly since the 1850s, when we were a mission church of St. Andrew in Milford. We have changed, as has the Church universal. Many though we are, we are one body in Christ. We reflect the plurality of our larger church community. Some of us have been here a long time; others have been here a short time. Like the Church throughout the world, we are many but one; like the image of St. Columban in our worship space, we are unfinished. “There is always more to be done – by a prophet, or a painter, or by a parish."

 Liturgical Ministers

Altar Servers and
Book Bearers

St. Columban parish children are eligible to serve as Altar Servers and Book Bearers. The ministry is open to boys and girls 5th grade, or older. All are required to attend training sessions and must be able to serve when scheduled.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

...or sometimes called Eucharistic Ministers are men and women in the parish who have been baptised Roman Catholic, and have made their First Communion. They assist with distribution of the Eudcharist at Mass and may take Communion to the sick and homebound.

Lectors

St. Columban parishioners who have been properly trained may serve as Lectors. These men and women proclaim the Word of God at Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

Ministers of Hospitality/Ushers

A group of men, women and families whose ministry is to make sure that every one is welcomed to the celebration of the Suncay Eucharist.

Welcome Ministry

The Welcome Ministry is a group of parishioners whos mission is to make all new parishioners feel welcome to our parish. This includes after Mass registration as well as making one home visitation.

If you would like to be a part of these ministries, please contact at the Parish Office at 683-0105 ext. 109.

UPDATE for Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Minimize

Effective Immediately...
Anyone taking communion to the sick and homebound is encouraged to place the pixes in the top bread bowl on the credence table. The server will bring them to the altar with the bowls. The deacon will place hosts in them during the fracturing of the bread and then leave them on the altar. Following the prayer after communion, either the priest or deacon will call forward those who are taking communion to the homebound.  The deacon then gives the pixes to the ministers. The priest may comment on their ministry and then send them forth before the blessing. Anyone uncomfortable with this new practice may still place the pix on the tabernacle shelf as in the past. If you have any questions, please contact Deacon Jim Miller at 683-0105.

Liturgical Minister Schedule Information

December 2011 through January 2012 (pdf)

ALL MINISTERS: This schedule includes Christmas and New Year's Day. Remember, we need as many volunteer Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Usher/Greeters, Leaders, and Lectors as possible for our Christmas liturgies -- especially the 3:00 PM liturgy. We will have an audio/visual hook-up in the Parish Hall (former undercroft) for the 3:00 PM Mass. This means many more ministers are needed as Ushers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, probably need a total of ten bread and eighteen cup stations. It would be good to have a second Leader also. The other Masses will not be as crowded, but we still must have a full compliment of ministers at each.

I know each of us wishes to celebrate the Christmas liturgies with family. However, it is extremely important that we have sufficient minsters even if that means some must ministers must attend more than one Mass. Please volunteer!

Have a very Blessed Christmas!

EXTRAORDINATRY MINISTRES OF HOLY COMMUNION:
Please check the sign-in sheet each time as you arrive for Mass.  Often we have insufficient ministers signed up for a Mass.  With the number of ministers that we have, this should never happen.  When you have finished serving at your stations and have either excess bread or precious blood remaining, it is helpful if you check with other nearby stations for needs before you return your excess to the altar or credence table.  We still need more ministers to consider becoming leaders.  Call me at 683-0105 if you have any questions about this ministry.

ALL: All of you are a gift to us here at St. Columban. Thank you for your involvement in the parish liturgical ministries offered here.

-Deacon Jim Miller
