Baptized children in second grade or older prepare to receive the Eucharist for the first time during the Easter season. 

Parents, in conjunction with catechists in the school and the religious education program, prepare the children.  Parents and students work through a First Eucharist book.  There is a parent session on this Sacrament and a retreat for candidates and their parents.  Candidates also participate in a “Jesus Day” retreat just prior to celebration of the Sacrament.  Students in the school and religious education program may receive the Sacrament at the same Sunday liturgy with their classmates, or parents can schedule their child’s First Eucharist at a different Sunday Liturgy.
