A Worshipping community Since 1859. St. Columban Parish is a Catholic community that follows the Word and Work of Jesus Christ through discipleship, stewardship, and fellowship. It is an understatement to say that our parish has grown significantly since the 1850s, when we were a mission church of St. Andrew in Milford. We have changed, as has the Church universal. Many though we are, we are one body in Christ. We reflect the plurality of our larger church community. Some of us have been here a long time; others have been here a short time. Like the Church throughout the world, we are many but one; like the image of St. Columban in our worship space, we are unfinished. “There is always more to be done – by a prophet, or a painter, or by a parish."

PREPARE FOR THE ROMAN MISSAL
Advent 2011 will be truly special in the United States with the adoption of the new translation of the Roman Missal. There are wonderful resources to help prepare for this big change, now including a new podcast featuring an interview with Archbishop Schnurr.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE ARRIVAL OF THE REVISED ROMAN MISSAL?
You may have heard that we’ll be making some changes in the words we sing and say at Mass. Musical changes will begin in September, and the texts that we recite together will change at the end of November.

Curious about the changes and wanting to know more?
Join us for….
New Words…Deeper Meaning, Same Mass
Five Sessions to Understanding the
Revision of the Roman Missal

Session 1: Why? How? By whom were the changes determined?
                  Entrance Chant, Sign of the Cross, Greeting
Session 2: Penitential Act, Opening Prayer (Collect), Glory to God; Liturgy of the Word
Session 3: Nicene Creed; Preparation of the Gifts
Session 4: Eucharistic Prayer (Dialogue, Preface, Holy, Doxology, Amen)
Session 5: Eucharistic Prayer, continued (Institution Narrative, Acclamation of Faith);
                  Communion Rite (The Lord’s Prayer, Sign of Peace, Lamb of God, Prayer after Communion);
                  Concluding Rite
These sessions have been designed to give information about the revision of the Roman Missal, but they’re about much more than learning “new words.” The upcoming text changes present us with an excellent opportunity to take some time to reflect on the structure and meaning of the Mass that we celebrate week after week, year after year. What does it mean to gather together on Sunday, sing together, pray together, receive the Body and Blood of Christ, be sent forth for mission? What effect does this (or should
this) have in our daily lives? The sessions will include time for discussion and for your questions. Each set of five sessions will be offered in the sequence listed above, on a variety of days and times – some in the morning and some in the evening.
